The Lady Scots Track/Field Team competed extremely well at the Region II-5A Meet on Friday, April 28th and Saturday, April 29th.  The team tied for 8th place with 18 points.  Mansfield Lake Ridge won the meet with 128 points.  There were 30 teams competing for the Regional Championship.

In the field events, senior captain Abbey Govett placed 8th in the long jump with a jump of 17′ 0.5″, sophomore Phoebe Spackman tied for 9th with a vault of 9′ 0″, and sophomore Olivia Briggs placed 10th in the triple jump with a jump of 35′ 0.75″.

In the running events, freshman Cameron Fawcett placed 8th in the 3200 meter run (11:49.79), sophomore Olivia Conner placed 12th in the 100 meter hurdles (16.77), sophomore Grace O’Keefe placed 11th in the 1600 meter run (5:37.35), and the 4 x 400 meter relay placed 6th with a time of 3:59.03.  In the prelims, the team set a season record with a time of 3:57.42.  The team members were senior captain Abbey Govett, junior Maddy Stephens, sophomore Olivia Conner, and freshman Ella Patterson.

Two of the Lady Scots qualified for the UIL State Track/Field Meet.  Junior Maddy Stephens won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.82.  Last year, Maddy placed 4th with a time of 2:19.96.  Joining Maddy at the State Meet will be freshman Ella Patterson who placed 3rd in the 400 meter dash.

During the prelims on Friday, Ella broke the school record in the 400 meter dash.  She ran a 56.45 and the previous record was 56.87 set by Gabby Crank in 2015.  In the finals on Saturday, Ella broke her own school record with a time of 55.50.  Ella was considered a wildcard since she placed 3rd.  According to the UIL 2018 Track/Field Manual, “the UIL staff will select one additional qualifier for each event to compete in the state meet.  This qualifier will be the individual with the best overall time from all regional meets per classification that did not finish first or second.”  Ella had the best time out of the four regions, so she will get to compete at the state meet.

The team had a great meet and the coaches are so proud of everyone!

The UIL State Track/Field Meet will be on Friday, May 11th at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin.  Maddy competes at 5:20 p.m., and Ella competes at 6:45 p.m.
